    I cleaned the jet. Interesting about the float having a hole. How would that effect it from running though, by flooding it? How would I even check for a hole?

    The float wouldn't lift the fuel intake needle (dont recall the technical term) if it was unable to float. The carb couldn't "detect" that it actually had fuel and would flood.

    Remove float, put in a bucket of water with a weight to test. Let it sit for a while and ensure no liquid inside.
