Last M1 Garand that I got from the CMP also had the white painted numbers on one side of the butt stock close to the butt plate. I had a hell of a time trying to remove those painted numbers. Sure didn’t want to sand the stock so most of the painted area that is deep in the wood grain is just going to remain there and I can easily live with it. .

    Ok fellas
I’ve been looking at the Garands for a while now. I could have gotten one from CMP but I would like to see what it looks like before buying it. I thought there was one on here for sale but I couldn’t find it yes I did use the search.

I found this one on arms list I don’t know enough about them if this is a fair price or not. Or maybe you can point me in the direction of one

Way over priced for a CMP service grade. My experience with the CMP has been great, everything I purchased was better than described.
If you want a M1 rifle, buy from the CMP. Join the Garand Collector's Association (GCA), your CCW permit will qualify as the marksmanship requirement.
Don’t pay Armslist prices, support the CMP. You will get a solid shootable M1 Garand that you will enjoy for years.

Agree. I've been after very specific M1 Garands and frequent Rock Island auctions and Proxibid. Going prices for Garands on Rock Island has been $1300 for mix master rebuilds and then add the buyer's premium on top of that.

I do belong to the GCA because if one came up I would be ready. There’s not that many of the higher grades coming down the pipe. I think I have found one In Colorado. I will let you guys know when because I will be asking a bunch of questions.
    Thanks for the help

The CMP also has auctions on rarer M1 rifles. You should be able to find what you want there if you really want something rare and collectible.
