Not_a_Llama, are you volunteering to begin posting fallen military and Fire service? It is quite a commitment.

I also work in a first responder setting, and honor the sacrifices made by those who serve alongside me. But i personally wouldn’t want an ultimate sacrifice of mine to be reduced to a copy-paste exercise that receives single digit clicks and is imposed upon an audience that largely doesn’t care, or even resents the imposition.

I won’t tell anyone what to do or not do, but I will say for my part that I have refrained from replicating the effort on my side, because I believe it is not appreciated, and is disruptive to the flow and operation of the board. It’s really high volume, and incomplete at the same time. I think it is important to highlight the exemplary, rather than dishonor another’s memory through perfunctory action for the mundane.

For my part, I can write up a script or copy-paste from my daily work bulletin. I trust the management will be accommodating.

My service is especially known for our take on colleagues being regarded as family. Like me, you might walk away with an appreciation for how many line of duty deaths result from falls or cardiac events or motor vehicle accidents or cancer from presumed hazmat exposures decades ago. The EMS side of the house also has their share of hazards and LOD deaths. I hope they will likewise be appreciated.

I suspect, though, that there’s a reason the front page of the newspaper isn’t the obituaries. Even if it is easy enough to turn the page.
