Holy crap! This was a massive explosion caught on video. This page has a couple of videos from different locations. The shock wave is incredible, especially in the video that's lower down the page. As far as I know they haven't determined the cause yet.

That sure doesn't look like a conventional explosion or accidental explosion.


The explosion happened in the port filled with shipping containers.

How many terrorists novels include shipping containers with bombs? Was it a shipping container intended for somewhere else or was Beirut it's destination...? One has to wonder.

A lot more than the 10 deaths the media is reporting. There are videos of trees laid over and cars tossed about like toys.

Damage is being reported 10km away from the explosion.

The color of the smoke reminded me of one time when a rocket exploded at Cape Canaveral and all the fuel was burning up.

Maybe a tanker in the port?

Sounds like a fireworks warehouse. In some videos, you can see the firecrackers going off before big kaboom

The airport 6 miles away is reporting a partial roof collapse. That would take a whole bunch of fireworks...

I saw little spots of light (looked like camera flashes) inside the smoke prior to the explosion. After reading it was possibly related to a location where fireworks were stored it made sense seeing those flashes. But, yeah...that's a metric shit-ton of fireworks making a blast that big.
