Default Dillon 650 case feed issue

So I switched over from 308 to 9mm and I'm having case feed issues. All the bushing and bits and pieces are correct. The issue is the case is not inserting all the way into the shell holder. Actually it seems to be when the up stroke starts the case relaxes in the shell holder and moves back causing an alignment issue with the die. I have to stick my finger in there and give it a little nudge to get back in alignment.

I have torn it apart and cleaned everything and it starts doing it within 5 cases.

Anyone know the cause of this?

Have you tried to adjust the rod (camming pin) on the case feed body? Sometimes just a small adjustment up or down will correct this when I have had similar problems.

    Anyway you could video it?

I think what you're saying is that there's "drawback" as the case feed retracts from pushing the case fully into the shell plate?

Does this appear to be the case simply tipping as the Case Insert Slide (#2) retracts, or does the case appear to be sticking to the Case Insert Slide, drawing it back and out of it's fully inserted position?

Does your 650 have a Station 1 Locator Tab Spring (#12) or not? Early 650s had these, later ones do not.

As long as whitewalrus mentioned the camming pin, I'll put up those parts as well.

Probably a great time to mention how well Dillon supports "Right to Repair" - you can buy any part for any machine they make... If they even let you pay for it. More often than not they'll send you the part for free.

Did you flip your camming block over from rifle to pistol?

Yes what you describe as drawback is exactly what it is doing. I don't have the locator spring #12. To me it appears to be sticking to the case feed slide and pulling it back just a tad.

Screwed around with it some more and added a thin piece of cardboard to the face of the case feed slide. That's seems to have solved the problem.

Try adjusting it so the case is initially pushed in a little less. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but I've had that exact problem and it has worked several time. Even the instruction manual (IIRC) mentions setting it so it just gets the case to the back of the shell plate.

I will give that a try Tim if I ever find components.

I've had this "problem" as well. It makes pretty good sense as my 650 usually goes through .357 loads without a problem but I need to nudge 9mm cases.

These are remarkable machines. The one I picked up needed some TLC to become operational. I called the company and went through several things with a CS rep. I ended up with a laundry list of parts. When we got to the payment part he told me what was warrenteed and what I had to pay for. I was very pleasantly surprised.

Yeah when you get it running on a cartridge, you fly thru loading. When things aren?t going right, can be frustrating as there are so many things to look for.
