I'm a nerd. I'll see it. Came across the books in the ship's library in the early 90s. Interesting to read while hanging out in the Persian Gulf. Watched the David Lynch movie on Laser Disk. Saw the SciFi miniseries as well. And I'd watch this version too, even if it looked like it was going to suck. About the only thing I.just couldn't get into were the follow up novels his son wrote. Lacked Daddy's talent and vision.
Math is tough. Let's go shopping!

I know a lot of purists hated the David Lynch rendition but I felt it captured the spirit of the book. I am rather ticked that Villeneuve decided to gender swap a main character. I thought "Blade Runner 2049" was a bit of a mess but that's the only film of his that I've bothered watching. I think I'll watch this but may wait for it to be free on an airplane or HBO. I can't stand what Hollywood has been doing to classics.

The contemporary novels have lacked the breadth of the originals but I think Brian Herbert was providing details for a more in-depth look at the Dune universe from his father's notes while his co-author did the actual writing.

The 84 movie was shit within shit...
The only movie of Dune worth a shit was the Sci Fi mini series.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Disagree. I literally fell asleep trying to watch the SciFi channel series.

The David Lynch movie wasn?t great, but it sure as hell wasn?t boring.

    Much like I, Robot...
An impossible task to make into a movie... maybe 3-6 movies, but the whole story is so complex and layered.

I read the book in jr. high before the movie.

Never saw the series. I went to the movie with very low expectations and wasn't disappointed.

It was a decent attempt at the impossible- I don't blame anybody but Hollywood in general.
Double edged sword- if you didn't read the book first, it was fragmented and possibly confusing. If you did, they missed so many layers and complexity that you felt they didn't tell the whole story.

If they tried to make it into a series of movies, it would have dragged on.

How about somebody try to make "The Mote in God's Eye" into a movie? It would bore the general public with the attention to realism. (Another Larry Niven book, IIRC)
