    Default Spooked at south site

So I took my kids plus a couple and their two kids (kids 7-9) to the south site to shoot on Wednesday. We were on the 100 yard lane (second in from 67) and spent about 2 hours shooting. We generally had 1-2 rifles running the entire time.
About 2 hours in I am at the 100yd mark, my son is shooting a 10/22 at some target on the burn when I see a person and a dog come over the rise. I call a cease fire and we clear all the weapons as this joker walks his dog behind the berm.
I decided to call the day at that and we started packing. I see the guy and his white dog come back, he is coming from the rise behind the berm and seems to have park his truck in a small valley just east of the backstop berm, really in the same crease…
So was I over reacting to clear the range, the next guy proceeded to set up on the lane despite seeing him.
Why would someone hike in a known range, I put 400-500 rounds down in the 2 hours before I saw him cross?

Yeah that would've freaked me out as well......

I've been up there twice now and I gotta say its a nice spot, seemed clean and not as trashy as Rampant.
The second time I was there, we set up just past the first three lanes, went to the right where the road splits. There is a large piece of plywood set up.......
Anyway, we were there for about 2hrs when I hear gun shots behind us and I could hear the rounds ricocheting over head or very close by. Then it sounded like he was bump firing......
We shot for about 30min more and decided to pack up and call it. When we left we got to the fork in the road and I decided to check out what it looked like down the other way (where I thought the shots were coming from). There was a few people shooting off to the right, not sure if it was a lane of not as I didn't look hard.
I did notice though that they were walking around shooting further up in the "lane" and didn't notice what direction they were shooting.
Freaked me out when they bump fired and bullets were going ......ziiiinggg around us....seemed a little close.

probably some anti-gunner hoping to catch a stray round or something in an attempt to close the place down. either his dog gets hit, himself or the truck.
All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break em for no one.

No shortage of stupid people making all sorts of attempts to remove themselves from the gene pool. That's what happens when you remove all the things that let the dumb ones kill themselves off early.

    Good thing I'm not cynical...

    Troublco,
If you were cynical, how would you have worded that differently?

If I were, I may have said something mean...like:

There are an excessive number of syphilitic freaking morons who delight in attempting to cause a spectacular end to our suffering (suffering their existence, that is) in the most creative ways, naturally not intentionally as their ignorance would prevent them from planning it in advance. Or, for that matter, planning almost anything in advance. These are the ones who simply do whatever flits through their mind next, however gratuitous and untenable. This is simply indicative of the results of the Government's (OSHA in particular) endeavors to maintain the liberal's voting base by babyproofing the entire country. So basically we now have millions of people alive who should have eliminated themselves reasonable early on, making the rest of us miserable by their mere existence and all of the ramifications thereof. On the positive side, it can be entertaining occasionally, if you enjoy watching COPS or some of the offshoot videos like Deadliest Police Chases.

See. Once again, good thing I'm not cynical.

Ok.. I admit I've only been to the south site once or twice that I can recall. As I remember it, it is obviously a popular and well known place to shoot. I wonder what this hiker was thinking.. Granted, he has as much right to hike in the area as anyone else might have to shoot there, but why not pick a little bit safer spot to take a walk?

Its kind of like back when I used to ride a bicycle when I was a teenager. Leagally, I had every right to ride on Academy Blvd. Did I? No, because it was just inviting injury and accident.

I guess common sense isn't all that common....

He must have heard the shots, but without seeing the shooter, didn't realize that he was standing behind the berm.

Yep. Once, I think it was a club shoot we alote of people shooting at the 100m site, a truck drives up the road looking at us. Just after passing the line they turn and drive down to the berm. You never what people are thinking.
