Linear Compensators on AR Pistols

Hey all,

I'm looking to add a linear compensator to my Ruger AR Pistol. All the internals are stock from the factory still.

My understanding is that linear compensators can add a bit more force to the buffer. Does anyone know if I would need to swap out my buffer tube/spring, or is it not even a noticeable difference?

I would be surprised if a muzzle device (other than a suppressor) did anything to the buffer. I suppose it's possible that it could increase gas pressure a touch, but not nearly like a suppressor would.

It's my understanding that these are designed to push the muzzle blast forward. My thought is that this would increase recoil, but I don't think it would impact the reciprocating mass much at all. You would need a significant increase in gas pressure to need buffer system changes.

This would be my thought. Throw it on and run it without changing anything else.

Only change one thing at a time. Otherwise, you will chase your tail if something is wonky.

I didn't think it would make a difference, just wanted to be sure. I'll throw it one and take it to the range at some point soon. I imagine my zero might shift a little as well.

I got linear comps on 300BLK and 9mm AR pistolas. I can't say if they add any force to the buffer or felt recoil. I know after several thousand rounds the 9mm pistola still runs and functions like new.... the 300BLK pistol only has like 500 rounds thru it and runs like new also

That's good info. I'm surprised there isn't more felt recoil, since you're forcing a lot of energy forward, instead of in a sphere around the muzzle. Equal and opposite reactions, and all.

I just put on a Flaming Pig one on my 7.5" 300blk pistol a couple of days ago and they have one baffle like a suppressor has and does provide some back pressure. From what I read they have a patent on it and it was approved by batf way back when because it didn't quiet the blast enough to call it a suppressor. I recently tried a David Tubbs flat spring made for the 300blk and that helped but still couldn't shoot 208gr subs yet so maybe this will do it. With the flat spring I can shoot 200gr subs made by Win but they don't hold open on last round. Plan on shooting it in the next few days to find out if this does the trick.
