    Default Crazy LEO Stop

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=latLT6Jzud4

Crazy traffic stop in New Mexico from September. It's a long video, but basically a simple traffic stop, the driver w/o warning opened fire through his passenger window and hit the female officer in both hands. She recovered, returned fire, and pursued.

The bizarre thing is the drivers parents were following, they were all going on a family vacation. It's hard to imagine provocation even from a mentally ill standpoint. At one point, she did accidentally drop her magazine without noticing, but we'll have to give her a full PASS since I'm pretty sure nobody trains for having both hands shot.

Shooting the truck as it’s fleeing. Not sure if that’s smart on her part. Could of hit someone driving by.

I only watched the first 6 min. so far. She called in stating she was shot. I did not catch anyone ask about her condition. Maybe I just missed it. For those who have watched the entire thing, did they ever ask?

Honestly they were pretty slow in caring for the injured officer. Granted, you can tell that it isn't life threatening, but they were also slow to fully assist her (imho) once more than enough officers were on scene. It's not exactly that they didn't help, but it wasn't a priority, or maybe they figured she was handling it ok, so she would keep on handling it ok. Yet, there's a crap ton of nerves in our hands, you could tell that hurt like a S.O.B. and she was playing tough, which is a very short term solution.

They didn't even get her Advil like she asked until fiddle-farting around and the paramedics had already arrived. And then he just held the pills out like she's going to grab them with bandaged hands.... jfc man *shakes head* but, once again, I've been in crazy dynamic stressful situations, and your brain isn't exactly logical when responding, mistakes are always made, so I'm not going to condemn them for it, but definitely learn from it.

I've never been in a shooting situation, but been in other critical ones, for instance, on a canyon water rescue with no way in but to jump, I took off my pants (smart) and shoes (dumb) and tossed them down the cliff on to a sandbar, with my thinking to try to preserve my phone (smart) so I could call into EMS as soon as I had service. Nobody else there to help, by the way. I jumped in from the cliff edge and just about sprained my ankle on underwater rocks (dumb). Then, I put my shoes onto the victim (ever dumber) to try to keep them from further injury or cuts in the stream-bed while getting them out, figuring I could suck up any injury and then recover them once exiting the water. Of course, they didn't fit, so they *poof* were gone in the water too, and I ended up barefooting a long, long ways.... I also tried to hold my pants above the water (dumb) which which the chaotic flow, caused me to drop my pants, had to swim to recover those, and the loss of my phone entirely when it slipped out of a pocket (dumb) in the process. If I were to keyboard commando myself, I'd have told myself to only hold the phone and wear the pants... among berating myself for being an idiot on all of those counts. (I had a CCW in the pants, and my mind didn't want the gun getting wet either, another dumb moment).

But hey, I still got 'em out (many years ago). When you've never trained or anticipated something that bad - like getting shot in both hands in her case - you're going to f up a few things. There's not enough time to consider all possible adverse logic or have full awareness. 90% right is a decent job.

I did see the entire video and, in my opinion, she did remarkably well considering she'd been shot.

I saw two real "Oh, shit..." moments regarding how she handled it. First, when she didn't notice there was no mag or she inadvertently dropped the mag in her AR and didn't notice. Second, when she was checking on dad and had him proned out and she laid her AR on the ground. If it wasn't within reach of dad (granted, he wasn't really spry) it was pretty damned close.

However, she'd just been shot and might not have been thinking as clearly as she normally might.

I also saw another video of a female officer or deputy who confronted a man with a knife on a traffic stop. She wound up shooting him several times but he still closed to within contact distance. She had a malfunction in her handgun, used her free hand to create a little space, performed a pretty damn good immediate action on her gun and continued to shoot him.

    Both ladies did quite well.

I watched most of it. I think she did really well, of course I have no experience. I think it’s a hard choice to make when someone who shot you is infront of you and someone new is approaching from behind, what should you do? I will say I’m surprised she made it almost 2 mins after being shot before she cussed. I slipped on some ice yesterday getting out of my van and o had 3 fbombs out before I hit the ground I think. I think to baileys comment I would have put the sling on so then later the rifle couldn’t have been taken, but like I said never been close to that situation.
