    Default Greeley Handyman Recommendations

    Howdy, all:

My coworker has a front door that is no longer closing/latching correctly. From what she describes, it's out of alignment and no longer lines up the latch of the handle to the hole in the frame.

Anyone have recommended handyman services in the Greeley area? It's an older house, so it might be more than just a simple "Buy new door and hang it" or I'd do the job.

    Private Message replies are fine.

    Thanks in advance.

    Best,

Better go take a look or get her to take some pictures - chances a new door would be needed is likely low unless the door is warped. I've seen frames come out of true, hinges grind down after years of friction, foundations shift and wreck the door frame geometry.... but it could also be just as simple as loose or worn hinges or a bad latch on the door itself.

Or thermal expansion/contraction possibly? The GF has a 130 yr old house in CS, and between the change in humidity summer to winter and the thermal effects, her front door is a huge PITA.

I'd say both. Check the hinges and latch, then if thats not the case look at where the door meets the frame, like Crays said it could just be thermal expansion and contraction and 5 min with a hand plane or orbital / belt sander could fix it.

Curious, is the door binding in the frame anywhere or is it just that the bolt won't seat properly?

Or too many fights/slamming split frame on hinge side or other abuse. Pictures would help a lot in determining the problem.....
