    Default The Camera Thread

I love cameras and photography even though I'm not very good at composing scenes. If I get a good picture it's rarely intentional. But I have fun at it and like to learn.

Here are a few sample photos from the new Lumix FZ1000. Unusually blue sky for SW Oklahoma today so I went out to a neighbor's scrapyard and to a creek across the street from my house to see what I could do with the Lumix. These were mostly (maybe all) shot on iA (Intelligent Auto?) mode. No edits other than resizing for the forum.

Some things I noticed. I have the focus set to the widest focus setting...I think it takes 49 points. It probably will take some tweaking to figure out what works best. Unless there's really something specific I want to try setting-wise, iA mode appears to work really well with this camera. The lens is really good. Focus seems to be lightning fast and auto-focus seems to be excellent. Stabilization works well. I'm usually not too fond of the little viewing screens on most digital cameras. I like the traditional viewfinder. But this one is very clear and easy to use and it articulates so I tried using it. Surprisingly, I kinda like it. I have it set to take a RAW and JPG with each shot. For me I found out quickly that's a waste of card space. So back to just JPG. I don't need 25mb image files for what I do. The controls and buttons for changing settings are much easier to use on this camera than the Nikons I've used. It's still pretty complicated and above my head for the most part but I did play with some different modes and settings. I'll stick to iA for now. It takes 4K video but I haven't tried that yet.

Here are a few samples just for grins:

I think this one is a little underexposed but I like the color and contrast.

iA did well capturing the very blue sky we have today.

I was really close on this one and the focus is a little soft on the left side.

Another good job with the sky. I could never get a good blue sky with my Nikon. It always looked washed out. I don't know what I was doing wrong and never figured it out.

It did a good job of accurately catching the color of the brush and the water. This one is also a little soft on the left side. I think that's because it's the closet point.

Another attempt at a closeup. I like the color contrast again.

Those are quite good. Can your camera automatically change the coloring to black & white, or sepia?

I think that tricycle in BW would work well.

Yeah... You can change to monochrome. I like doing stuff in B&W, too.

Very awesome. Being able to shoot raw and jpeg is something I do like, but if your not editing anything afterwords not really a need to shoot raw from what I understand. What kind of lenses are you running on that.

It's kinda of like a bridge camera. It has a fixed 25-400 Leica zoom lens. The lens seems to be pretty solid. Doesn't have the reach of some others but it's decent.

Nice work! I like the last one with the depth focus.

Wish I had a decent camera & could have captured how lovely the sunrise really was this morning. Couldn't see the comet prior to, unfortunately. Saguaros, palms & bougainvillea set the mood regardless. Time for an upgrade.
