traditions? Why we use to get together with a few differents groups and enjoy alcoholic beverages, various foods etc. As time went on, getting a buzz and having to drive became less an outlet, than potential to loose not only your DL, but gun rights.
Then again most people we associated with, friends and family, stopped drinking decades ago. So it's usually an early night, if out and about. BUT we don't need a holiday to enjoy the company of others. .

New Year's eve, just another day.

New Year's day, wife says....Happy New Year.
    I say....Same to you.

    Then we have coffee.

    That should be "All y'all"

My nieghbors and I would set up a portable fire pit in the cul-de-sac, everyone would bring food and drink, lawn chairs. Some years even some fireworks would be set off, didn't matter on the weather-we would do it. This year one couple is fighting covid, everyone else is just sitting tight, those of us healthy enough will lift a glass from our driveways and toast this suck ass year being in the past.

My older son is 18 years old, and when my wife was pregnant with him she took a water aerobics class with a bunch of other first time moms and one lady working on her fourth. They all became friends and all of the kids were born within 30 days of each other. The moms became one big social group that brought in the husbands, too.

At about the kids' age 3 my wife and I decided to host a kids' sleepover for new years eve for the 8 or so kids to let the other parents go out and celebrate. This continued the next year, and so on. Eventually the other parents would stay a little longer and finally no one left. The kids grew up, brought their friends over, and the older siblings of the experienced mom also came over, brought boyfriends and would travel from different cities to make the event.

It's not happening this year for the first time in 15 years. We've already had one request to set up a virtual party, so we we're working on that. I'm not even sure if I'll stay up to midnight this year.

My Dad was a petroleum geologist with Shell. Every time there was a promotion, we had to move. Corporate Policy
We lived in Louisiana, Wyoming, Canada, Utah, California, and Colorado.
My folks were originally from MA and NH, then picked up traditions and recipes from every location and carried them with us.
We have always had black-eyed peas first thing New Year's morning for good luck all year. Best as I can figure, my parents picked that up in Louisiana.
My most interesting observation of New Year's tradition was in Naples, Italy, while in the Navy in the 60's.
Fireworks and then people would throw everything into the street that they wanted to get rid of - I mean everything - appliances, trash, clothes, furniture.
We were barred from going out on the streets from 10 PM New Year's Eve to about 8 AM New Years Day, (Yeah, I know 2200 to 0800), when front-loaders and dump trucks would go down the streets cleaning them up.
No scavenging, just pure trash removal.
    Probably a lot different now.

Nah. The renters in my condo complex celebrate that way every day.

I generally try to make a motorcycle ride on New Year's day, regardless of the weather. Street bike if possible, dirt bike as a second choice.
I've only missed a couple of rides in the last 34 years.
