It is unlawful to possess a firearm inside your residence unless it and the ammunition are registered with MPDC. There is no permit issued in the District to lawfully carry any firearm outside your residence, and no permit from any state or territory is recognized in the District. Impact weapons, are illegal to carry in the District. If someone was wearing a baseball uniform and walking down the street open carrying a baseball bat, officers have discretion on arresting and confiscating the bat as an impact weapon. Regardless of Heller, the District does not look kindly on citizens right to defend themselves. Just ask freshman Representative Boebert about the reaction from the Mayor and Police Chief in the District after her concealed carry commercial.
Obviously there are lots of guns in DC. Outside, the vast majority of those guns are carried by LE and criminals. Criminals do not expect to meet armed resistance in the District. Just pee on yourself and hand over your valuables.
Be safe.

I edited the above post. Apparently some forms of pepper spray and stun guns are now permitted in the District.
