I disagree it is a better system. It is the oldest modern democracy and it's showing it's age. I do not believe it was designed with the ability to support +300 million people in the digital age. It clearly is dysfunctional, possibly imploding. Both sides are intractable and do not represent a vast portion of their constituents. We cannot continue to be asked to hold our nose at the ballot box. If we do not adapt we may cease to exist. I do not want that to happen. I don't want a revolution. We pride ourselves that we Americans lead the world in innovation, well why not with here?

I agree with most of your points. Much of the rules/requirements/procedures were put in place before the internet age when it took much longer to accomplish things and there needed to be time for communication from distant places. So some of that could be updated I guess, but it really isnt holding things back. Besides, a slow, plodding, locked up government was what the founders were shooting for as it prevents rapid swings imposed by the latest and greatest social ideas.

I would ask you.... what would you replace it with? It sounds like you have an idea of what we should be doing. I hope you arent one of those that bitch about what they have been given but have never put any thought into what could be better.

Americans have been "holding their nose" at the ballot box for generations. The current crop of crappy politicians is not just a recent thing. There have been some better options in times past (of course that depends on your party affiliation of course), but those were far in between with a bunch of self centered jackasses the rest of the time. People tend to wear the rose colored glasses over past elected politicians and forget the political rambunctious times those officials worked through. Reagan and JFK are now pretty much viewed as good or even excellent presidents, but each was highly criticized at the time for things they did and were constantly battered by the other party. Hold your nose? How about Johnson/Goldwater in 64? Messy election over two not great options.
