I think what we're seeing is a lot closer to the time period between the Boston Tea Party and the battles of Lexington and Concord. Lookup Worcester Revolt. For months, citizens raided British controlled courts to force out officials not sympathetic to their push for freedom.
No shots were fired. Guns were left at home in many cases. Just pissed off men storming government buildings to pressure officials.
