Someone tried to pull a paycheck protection loan under my wife's name. Fraud is absolutely rampant in government programs.

VP at work got a call from HR saying they received an unemployment claim in his name, were denying the claim and that he needed to lock down his ID, passwords and whatnot. I know states operate differently, but shouldnt the unemployment claims be verified by the employer? I cant see how enough of these get through the system to make the effort worthwhile to the scammers.

I received an unemployment debit card and a 1099 for a person using my address (that's never lived here unless it was over 23 years ago). No homeowners on my street with the name.

I reported the fraud to the unemployment commission.

My whole family got enrolled in Medicaid under the Cares Act. We don’t come close to qualifying due to income.
I didn’t even know. I had gotten mail from Medicaid but just threw it in trash. When I went to change our insurance last November at Healthcare.gov, it said we were not eligible because we were enrolled in Medicaid. Took three months to unwind that because nobody has ever tried to get off Medicaid before.
Apparently in Alaska Medicaid dropped income requirements to enroll, so somehow they opened a case for us without our knowledge or consent.

Recent article mentioned more then 17M fraudulent claims reported across the US - not noticed until people got W2-G's for income tax on the "unemployment payments" they never filed for.

More FSA fraud at the government teat.

My HR notified me that someone filed for Unemployment in my name. I haven't received anything at the house regarding it. Filed a report with CDLE.

My wife is having the opposite problem. She hasnt worked since Jan 1, and their system was down for maintainence for three weeks. Now, she has not been able to get back pay, and they have only paid for one week this year. Everyone at her restaurant are having the same problem, including the manager. You can't call and the one time the manager got through, the guy said he didnt know what the problem was and hung up on her.

Kyle Clark on Channel 9's Next at 6:00 pm has been following this for quite a while, and Channel 9's reporters seem to have a new expose and interview every day.
Between the lack of staff, trying to upgrade the computers at CDLE, Governor Polis focusing on Vaccines, and total overwhelming of the system, the result is phone calls unanswered, checks not sent, and a huge influx of fraud.
It seems they are trying to eliminate the fraud before they attempt to clear the backlog of legitimate claims.
And, there does not seem to be anyone in charge that can do anything.
Some might say that it is typical government incompetence, but it appears much more serious.
