    Default Cancel Culture/Small Victory

We held a special election here today. The community voted to fire a school board member who was much more aligned with West Coast values than those we wanted our children exposed to.

I wasn't sure how this would work out. Signs in his support were much more evident around town than any effort to oppose him. It's a small victory but hopefully it sends a message and is the start of bigger things. Canceling can work both ways....

    Fucking Lance. Well done.

He does look fun to hang with though.

This shows me the important part:
“This recall diminishes diversity in representation and threatens the First Amendment protections of volunteer community servants...
Diversity can be beneficial, but it's been weighted way too heavily in the last few decades. I seriously doubt he brings the kind of diversity that the district would benefit from either.

"McDaniel became a subject of scrutiny from some pockets of the community last year after a series of controversial social media posts led to an effort to oust him from the school board."

His First amendment was not curtailed. He made his statements, spoke his mind and the community held him responsible for it. No one kept him from speaking.

"McDaniel is also a member of the Cortez Planning and Zoning Commission. He was appointed to the school board position in 2018."

Progressives use appointments to get thier people into influential positions to avoid the scrutiny of elections. The community should look more closely at whoever appointed him.

Anthony Nicotera is a lame journalist as well.

Cortez is an interesting place. I worked a national guard callup down there a long time ago. Cortez seems influenced by Bluff, UT.
OP, correct me if I'm wrong.

The lesson from this is whoever shows up makes the policy. It's time for more 2A and conservative folks to seek office at every level. The problem working against many on this side is the "leave me alone" mantra leads to a lack of participation, then you get the likes of this guy

The most recent callup I can recall involved the search for Jason McVean, Alan Pilon, and Robert Mason after shooting and killing Officer Dale Claxton 20+ years ago. I was living outside Telluride when that happened. Crazy times for sure. At that time, Cortez was considerably less gentrified then it has become and the ties to Bluff were no doubt much stronger than they are now. Cortez is still an interesting place.

Since that time, Cortez has come more under the influence of new Colorado residents who cannot afford to live in Telluride or Durango. Telluride is strikingly New York while Durango is Los Angeles/San Diego.

Well, he still holds the zoning and planning commission seat, look forward to a lot of new permits either being strung out or flat out denied for certain people.
