yes.. I've been pushing for this for years, none of these shooters names should ever be broadcast, they should only be referred to in the media as "the murderer" or "the killer". Any images that are ever released should only show the shooter in a negative light. There are many psychiatric groups that have been pushing for this as well, some of them have generated reports saying that hey believe that these kinds of events could be cut by as much as 80% if the killers names and or photos are never released. Hopefully this continues moving forward and isn't a one off situation because of the killers name.

The media in Colorado also has to let go of it's fascination of the Columbine killings. Every year they start ramping up right about now to commemorate the anniversary of the shootings. Great way to let future psychos know that their actions will be broadcast and featured on the news for decades afterwards.

I agree. It's nothing more than sensational journalism that idolizes the worst people/events. It also pushes their narrative.

Wait, so the main complaint about media is that it doesn't report facts, and manipulates a specific, chosen narrative. But people are calling for media to not report facts, and report in such a manner as to maintain a chosen narrative?

Well, if it saves one life.

My complaint is the contrast. For some reason the shooter's name was repeated every other sentence for all previous shootings, but now that the shooter's name is "Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa" you don't hear it at all.

It's "The suspect" or "The accused shooter".

YOU are the first responder. Police, fire and medical are SECOND responders.

    That's a valid complaint.

I have noticed this specifcally for the Boulder event- only minimal reporting of the perp's name, picture and background (other than supposed "mental illness or "he was bullyed by racists in HS"). This a 180 deg change of journalistic techniques establish over the past two decades.

I haven't heard about any wounded victims, only the dead. Were there any wounded survivors?

And personally, the use of the word "suspect" is FAR overused and really chaps my ass. When someone's caught red-handed, they're not a goddamn "suspect".

Per the BPD Chief, the only wounded person was the perp- shot in the leg by one of the responding LEO (not Talley). That Officer is on paid leave per normal shooting investigation (I doubt it will take very long). All other casualties were killed on scene, with unconfirmed reports the wounded were shot multiple times at close range after being initially hit.

Judging how the guy surrendered after getting a leg wound, and his general mannerisms, I suspect a .32 acp FMJ to the gut by one of the citizens would have put him in the fetal position pretty damn quick.

How about a 10mm to the face instead?
