Each of those programs were designed to pay out, what was paid in.
Then they ballooned into what we have today. A Government severely in debt.

The very first recipient of Social Security paid in $24 in her working career. She received over $24,000 in benefits before she passed away. How is that paying out what was paid in?
Edit: I stand corrected. She paid in $24.75 and was paid out $22,888.92

And apparently we were $24,000 in debt from the get go.
Most of the people I knew, worked for a living.
I'm 57 years old, and have paid in to social security, via taxes, my whole life. Medicare, too, I think.
Should I get money back, when I retire? Or should it go to a bum on the street?

OK...considering the argument you're trying to make I have to say that's on the short list of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Basically, you want to replace the current thought police that doesn't agree with you to a different thought police that does agree with you. Which means exactly nothing changes.
Under our current system and Constitution... I'm just dying for you to explain to me why it's not OK for someone in this country to believe or to promote critical race theory or that a universal basic income isn't OK. Please...let me hear why it should be wrong for someone to believe and promote those things.
And before you come back with some knee-jerk reaction about my kids being communist, I, too, believe those things are wrong. But believing the theories are wrong is completely different than believing someone doesn't have the right to believe those things.
The "kill 'em all, let God sort 'em out" mentality is just as dangerous as the "let's give everyone free stuff" mentality.
And what exactly are you going to do when someone on your side decides it IS time to start "stomping out" those with different thoughts and the "stomping out" doesn't go the way you seem to think it's just naturally going to go? What are you going to do when that backfires and things get even worse? It's amazing to me that someone doesn't understand that an actual, shooting and killing war between people with different beliefs is NOT the way to solve this problem and that the chances of it going against the way you think are probably just as good as the chances it will go the way you think.

A good lesson for me in this point was what I saw under Saddam Hussein in Iraq. Muslim's believe that any non-Muslim is an "infidel", and the Koran (in parts) teaches that all infidels should be purged. Yet, time and again Sunni Muslims have attempted to wipe out Shiite Muslims (and vice versa) because "they aren't my type of Muslim. Various Christian groups have done the same. These are just religious belief differences, but we see it everywhere. We even see it amongst ourselves - some pro-gun folks differ in how they believe as to our rights and what should or shouldn't be allowed.
My point in this is that every person on Earth is different from every other person in some way or another. When we adopt the "kill 'em all" mentality to those who are different from us, where does it end? If taken to the absolute extreme (never happen, but work with me here), the end result of purging those with different ideas would leave just 1 person standing. Being the last man on Earth isn't something I fancy. Personally, I enjoy a bit of diversity in ideas - so long as everyone remains civil - which I realize isn't how the world is anymore but I can dream can't I?
