Under our current system and Constitution... I'm just dying for you to explain to me why it's not OK for someone in this country to believe or to promote critical race theory or that a universal basic income isn't OK. Please...let me hear why it should be wrong for someone to believe and promote those things.

And before you come back with some knee-jerk reaction about my kids being communist, I, too, believe those things are wrong. But believing the theories are wrong is completely different than believing someone doesn't have the right to believe those things.

The "kill 'em all, let God sort 'em out" mentality is just as dangerous as the "let's give everyone free stuff" mentality.

And what exactly are you going to do when someone on your side decides it IS time to start "stomping out" those with different thoughts and the "stomping out" doesn't go the way you seem to think it's just naturally going to go? What are you going to do when that backfires and things get even worse? It's amazing to me that someone doesn't understand that an actual, shooting and killing war between people with different beliefs is NOT the way to solve this problem and that the chances of it going against the way you think are probably just as good as the chances it will go the way you think.

FFS...
Good post.

I've also explained to people that diversity of thought is about as important for the survival of a country as diversity in genetics is for a species. That doesn't mean every perspective is beneficial. It just means there are a variety of tests that a country faces, and there is no perspective or individual opinion that is broad enough to be the "right" one for every challenge we face. Not only that but differing viewpoints tests your own and lets you try to compensate and anticipate weaknesses.

It is likely that no two viewpoints on this planet are perfectly identical. The only universal truth is that every perspective and belief is more wrong, than right, including our own. If you pick any individual in the entire world to rule over the planet, including anyone here, they will fuck it up, some worse than others, and everyone in a different way. There is no doubt though, it would get fucked up.
