Yeah... I got my first speeding ticket since 1990 about 3 weeks ago. It was a doozie! 77 in a 55. There's a long, open stretch of highway with a 75mph limit between the Oklahoma/Texas state line (the Red River) and Vernon, TX. There's a short stretch in a very small community where the limit drops to 55mph. I had my cruise set on 78, GPS said I was going 79. The nice deputy who stopped me said he clocked me at 77. I just forgot about the speed limit change and didn't adjust the cruise control because I was preoccupied talking with my girlfriend. And I got a $279 reminder not to be so preoccupied that I foreot to reduce my speed in that area.
I deserved it. No question. Actually, I almost never slow down thru that stretch if I'm being honest. So I figure with only 1 ticket and speeding thru there dozens of times I'm way ahead of the game. But I guarantee you I slow down now. That shit's expensive and paying fines takes all the fun out of speeding.
ETA: Girlfriend got her first speeding ticket in almost 30 years as well the day before I got mine. She was driving thru Throckmorton, TX on her way to see me. Sped up a little too soon leaving town. Her ticket only cost $189. One more thing we have in common now.
