I was stopped going up Hwy34 west of Loveland when I was 17 years old. I had slowed to turn off the highway at a friends place up the canyon when the Loveland cop caught up with me. I had my little brother with me and we were fully engaged in doubling or tripling the speed limit and the aforementioned 4-wheel drifts the whole way up the canyon. I never saw the cop until his lights came on and had no way of knowing what he saw me doing. I figured I'd be headed to jail. I was very relieved when he said, "son, I clocked you going 64 in a 55." Whew. He thought I was trying to evade him. I scoffed and said "I never *saw* you. And if I did, why would I turn off into this residential area? I could've kept going all the way to Estes and you would've never caught me?" He let me off with a verbal warning and a good scare. I'm sure the fact that I was in my primary-colored uniform from my job at Long John Silver's probably added to his amusement factor! Ah, the good ol days!
