Looking for suppressor reccomendations

Hello folks.
With our 2A going the way of the Dodo, I decided to take the plunge in the suppressor world.

Admittedly I know next to nothing about it, so I am looking for reccomendations...

This will be a one time purchase, I am not planning on several suppressors, so I want to get it right.

I am looking into maximum noise reduction and I so happen to have 22lr conversions both for my Glock and my AR, so a 22 caliber suppressor to be run with sub-sonic ammunition is the most likely candidate.
So far these two are the top contenders:

1. Dead Air Mask 22 HD
2. SilencerCo Sparrow

BUT, like I said, it will be a one-time deal, so I can afford to drop a few more bucks than that on a multi-cal can.

Ideally something that would accomodate all the way to 9mm, suitable both for handgun and rifle, therefore including 223, 308 etc.

My questions for you more experienced fellows:

Is there a multi-cal can on the market that's going to somewhat approach the noise reduction of a dedicated 22 suppressor?

Price, within reason, is not necessarily a factor (say under 2k for the can itself).

Also, anyone has experience with the above mentioned 22 cal suppressors?

If you still work at the firing range, I can bring you my two cans to try out. Just need to coordinate schedules. I have an OSS Helix QD 762 and a Bowers Bityy 22.

I would recommend getting a dedicated 22 can. The larger ones that cover more calibers are much heavier and larger - on small, light 22's this would be annoying if nothing else. 10 oz more doesn't sound like much until you hang it at the end of a barrel. Plus the 22 cans tend to be quite cheap compared to others. The 22 cans get very dirty and must be cleaned often, some of the multi calibers can be taken apart to clean, but not all.

For rimfire i have
DeadAir Mask
OSS Rad-22
SilencerCo Sparrow

They sound pretty similar with subsonic ammo.
Metering reviews give the sound reduction edge to the Mask and the RAD-22.
The sparrow can have some first round pop.
The RAD-22 has wrench flats on the end caps which can be handy.

Because rimfire is so dirty you are better of going with a dedicated rimfire suppressor
that you can disassemble and clean. They are also very light and small.

The SilencerCo Hybrid and Griffin Bushwacker are jack of all trades, master of none choices
usable on .22lr thru 45-70.
The Hybrid on a .458 Socom with supersonic ammo does reduce the sound but you still need to use hearing protection.

For centerfire up to 30 cal I use the SilencerCo Omega and DeadAir Nomad/Nomad L.

I didn't think the Hybrid was designed for 22 as its not user serviceable...the griffin ones are.

I have found that its hard to tell the difference between different cans designed for the same thing. You won't notice the difference of a few db.

The Omega is a great rifle can and my favorite. The others don't get used as much, even on 556.

Doesn't look like it would work for 22lr, their website states pistol from 9mm to 45acp and rifle from 5.56 to 45-70...

That's what they all say.

As for multi purpose and quiet. What will work for one caliber, will not be as quiet, or loud on another gun, or the same caliber.

Having a few 22 cans (old TAC-65 and 1st gen TBAC TI 22) On some 22's the TAC is superior to the TBAC. On others the TBAC really shines. As well as POI is minimal. I like the TBAC on the pistols and a few long rifles. Where the TAC has a purpose on the others.

Just a heads up. Not all 22 subsonic will or can cycle a pistol. I run the Gemtech subs in the ruger 22/45 lite's. Eley subs in the bolt actions and CCI quiet across the board. Probably due to the fa t i have a lot of it.


Now flipping that over to centerfire. The 30 Cal Ultra 7. is quiet on the 308 bolt actions. Even with standard handloads, not hollywood quiet, but a noticeable reduction in noise. When i run my 150gr hornays fmj's using 14 gr of trailboss. That's quite. Quite enough that one day i looked up, thinking the range had gone cold, as i was the only one shooting. I looked behind and to the side of me. Those on the line were inquiring what can i ran, AS it was that quiet. .

It's not as quiet on my semi 223's.


IMO it's a combo of the right ammo and gun , which you will not know till someone let's you shoot their suppressor. Ammo specifically made as subsonic works, but at that cost per rd. If you reload you can match said performance. Tuned specifically to your needs.
