I agreed to take the deposit because I got a good feeling from him. It’s the first gun he was buying post divorce so maybe there’s something there that needs to cleared.

I like to believe I’m good at reading people, has served me well in my various careers and never got the feeling something was off.

    Thanks for the insights.

Had it happen once. Met the guy at the shop and refunded his money minus the shop’s fee and BGC. The guy was really embarrassed about it.

That's how my situation went. I told him considering how long the appeal can take without a guarantee of a clearance I was offering it for sale again.

    exxonv thank you!

They fail, not your problem. The FFL has a free gun in his inventory.
What's with you always encouraging members to steal other people's money?

The gun is his after payment, but can't take it home from the FFL until his permission slip is approved. If he fails on appeal and abondons it at the FFL, how is the seller stealing? The seller is under no obligation to make sure the buyer passes his background check. That is a consequence of silly unnecessary universal background checks.

The buyer can ask the FFL to sell the gun for a fee or store it for a fee. The sellers obligation ends with cash in hand and transferring it to the ffl for the background check.

This isn't like dealing with Craigslist and a rare occurrence, sorry you have such a selfish outlook. At worst besides the bgc fee etc, id maybe ask for a $20 for time and fuel.

Because if someone pays you for something, and they don't get that thing, you've stolen their money.
