I think I know the answer to this question, but is it considered racist to call a black person by any name of another black person, or does it have to be an insult? If he had said, "Hold on Denzel," would it have been the same thing? I assume so.
If he was speaking to a black person, it was both stupid and rude. But I used to watch Our Gang as a kid and never thought the Buckwheat character was portrayed in any demeaning way. Buckwheat was just one of the gang.
That's where I was going. Either way it doesn't seem like something that a polite gentlemen would say in a public meeting.
And then the dumbazz tried to claim he used it as a term of endearment. Terms of endearment in public discourse are a bad idea, keep it professional at all times.
