    Default Watched the Sunrise today

For the first time in a month. Between the hospital and rehab, post surgery. It's been too long since i got to see the sunrise.

While it may seem trivial to most, I'm posting this for a few reasons .

First is, one rarely appreciates what we take for granted. Sure it's the sunrise, so what. Well being one who likes the various sunrises and sets we have. Along with the many cloud patterns. It really is a work of art, to enjoy. I didn't realize, how much it effected me, unable to witness both.

In rehab, due to Covid! Protocol is 14 days isolation. I'll tell you. I did not think being unable to go outside, or intermingle with others took the toll on me it did.

BUT. It put in perspective a lot of things.

Knowing how many people in nursing homes or other care facilities. Were literally kept in a room for a year. With no physical contact with anyone other than care givers. Made my 14 days a cake walk.
The stories i heard from care givers, how they had to follow CDC guidelines.
Isolation, no outside contact, NO going outside their room, at all. One therapist said. she had more than one person beg them to "let me go outside"

We're talking hundreds of thousands of people across the country. Like one was kept in solitary confinement for a year, if not longer.

The toll inflicted on these people, physically and psychology, is staggering. Yet we spend millions on illegals, rather than our own (homeless, veterans, seniors) citizens. To address their needs.

SO next time you see the sunrise or set. Or interact with family & friends. Be thankful of the things you take for granted . As tomorrow you may not. .

    Good post.

The psychological damage is quite apparent in some. All the things that used to keep a lot of seniors going in care homes were taken away. Now that a lot of the reasoning is gone and they can, in theory, return to those activities, many aren't. They are shut ins that just gave up, and exist, until they don't. Some that I know.

I wish we spent far more time as a country on psychological research and care and far less on bullshit social "movements". No so many people are "left behind" so to speak, we may as well presume the majority are. And how we treat people in care homes even before the pandemic often borders on abusive even in "good" settings.

    On a sort of side-derail...
For all the stimulus the gov' was throwing around, I wonder if laptops+VR or something would have helped some seniors. For those that have never seen "good" VR that may seem like a retarded idea, but I've yet to see a senior that didn't see the value in it for less-abled once they tried it. On top of things like flight sims, google maps (in VR) and VR youtube videos, I think things like VR Chat (which I've never attempted...) would be beneficial as well. Of course knowing humanity, grandpa may be equally likely to be using VR porn, so it is not without its downsides for visiting family members.

I get you, three weeks ago I had brain surgery to release a lot of blood that built up in my brain. This was from a slip and fall in March. I was fine, so I thought, but a few weeks later a slow bleed built up in my head was causing me to have headaches and coordination issues as well as issues walking normally. My balance was terrible.
It was bad but and I had my wife take me the ER on Carson. After the diagnosis I was sent to Memorial and underwent surgery the next day.
It has been a slow recovery but I am so much better now. My brain just was not working due to the pressure. I was happy to walk again after the surgery.
I?m mobile again and appreciate everything I can do. A lot of things in my life were re-prioritized.
I?m just enjoying life and look forward to the next day.
Looking at living a simpler life.......still enjoy my firearms though. Soon enough we will be on the range again.

That’s some good stuff. When people ask why I like my job I tell them I get to be outside every single day. I also get to be up on the roof to watch the sun rise a few days per week and set a few days per week it seems. Definitely nice to be in the peace and quite to see it happen.

Excellent post. I for one am glad you posted it and I am glad you can now see many more sunrises. This forum just would not be the same without you. Many in our country could learn a new perspective by reading your thoughts on the subject.

I'm not so much of an early riser, but one of the first things I do when I get up out of bed is to look out a window in our master bedroom to see how the weather is. I love the mornings where I can see the sunrise. Having the sun come up behind the Cascades makes for an amazing and often colorful sight. Our sunroom faces east and we probably don't make enough use of it to watch the sunrise (probably doesn't help that my wife isn't a 'morning person').

My old commute allowed me to watch the sunrise coming up behind Mount Rainier. Sometimes with the mountain casting a shadow onto the clouds above. An amazing work of art courtesy of our creator.

Every day that I wake up and can see the grass from the green side, it's a good day. Some are better than others.

Mentioning Covid-19 quarantine, I was really grateful to have a backyard where we could get out of the house and get some fresh air, a little sun, and play fetch with the dog, etc. I felt really bad for those apartment dwellers and others living in high-density situations that couldn't do the same.

Thanks for the perspective reminder and the update on your health situation. Prayers are outbound to all of those in this thread dealing with health challenges.

Thank you for sharing. Sadly most people need to experience the absence of something to learn how great it is having it. In today?s world where you can virtually see any place on the globe on your computer screen, there is just something about the real thing that the screen cannot capture.

Hopefully you recover quickly now that you are out!
