    Default Lincoln County Deputy Shooting

    Media reports are scant.

Anybody know details of the shooting, condition of the Deputy and where the suspect was "contacted"?

The family and I just drove through there early Tuesday morning (1-2 am).

And I wonder why we travel armed...

    From link above:

LINCOLN COUNTY, Colo. ? The suspect who allegedly shot a deputy several times along US Highway 40 in Lincoln County Thursday morning has been located, according to the Kit Carson County Sheriff's Office.

US 40 was closed from Limon to Kit Carson as authorities searched for the suspect Thursday.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said just after 3 a.m., dispatch received a call about a theft in progress at milemarker 386 on US 40. When a deputy arrived at the scene, he or she was "ambushed" and "shot several times," the sheriff's office said. The deputy called for assistance and several agencies responded.

The sheriff's office said it's not clear if the deputy was able to return fire.

The deputy was transported to a hospital. Information on his or her condition was not immediately available.

At 10 a.m., the Kit Carson County Sheriff's Office announced the suspect has been located and is "no longer a threat."

    Thanks!

Serious but stable is a pretty good status given the situation.

Deputy alert and talking to family / investigators. Outstanding!

Event started as active theft from a semi-trailer.

Perp is dead near scene from self-induced gunshot wound. I wonder if the Deputy got a hit on target and the guy didn't want to be arrested, or he had a complete introspective change of heart about his ways?
