Making time for the range
I used to go to the indoor range 3 or 4 times a week over lunch. It's a few blocks away from my office building so I was able to swing the time pretty easily. Now that I am full time remote with two young kids at home I have been lucky to get out once a month. Compounding my lack of opportunity, my wife went back to work full time a year ago. I miss having the time, but we really need my wife's income so it's a fair compromise. I do envy people who are able to make range trips more often than I can though.
Yesterday I made it down in the afternoon to shoot a few 1911's and my old high standard .22. My accuracy was rocky in the beginning but I managed to tighten up my groups quite well, with both calibers, towards the end. My accuracy has gone way down with the lack of practice in general, so it felt good to finally see some respectable groups again.
I need to figure out some time to get outside and shoot some steel. I have a .450 bushmaster and a .50AE that I imagine would wreak havoc on my plates, but I haven't been able to swing the time to get them outside. Shooting paper with both of them is not as interesting, and expensive enough it's not really all that fun.
I also used to participate in the .22 steel challenge at the indoor range. They hold them in the afternoons during the week, so I would just work late and go straight over after. My wife gets home after they start now, so I haven't been to one in a year.
