    Default Background check standard

If buying a gun from a private seller, do you wait to pay until the background check is complete and transfer can take place?

I ask because the waiting times can be several days.

    Thanks

Nope. You get paid when FFL transfers it to their books and they take possession. If a BGC fails, it's buyer's problem.

Well, it depends on the FFL's policy. At Ark Tactical, for example, the FFL will take possession of the firearm at the time the buyer and seller meet. At that point the buyer gives money to the seller and the seller is done. Any future transactions are between the buyer and the FFL.

However, some other places either don't have the space or don't want the liability or don't want to have to deal with the hassle of a rejected BGC.

For example, I sold a gun through Damage Factory in Centennial and they would not hold the firearm. Instead, the buyer did the paperwork and inspected the gun and then we had to come back 4 days later after the buyer passed the BGC and at that point I transferred the gun and got the $$.

Which is a PITA and why I would not use Damage Factory again (assuming they still have the same policy.)

So I'm the buyer. I was curious as to when I pay the seller.

So the seller leaves the gun with the FFL?

    Generally.
You pay seller. Seller transfers firearm to FFL and walks out the door. The rest of the deal is between you and the FFL.

BGC's have been back down to the "normal" wait times of 5-30min. recently.
