On the dog front, I used to pop those air pockets they use for shipping...and also showed lots of love and normal interaction during loud thunder and lightning strikes. It really seems to have helped Lilly the BMC.

I have no idea how she would do with guns, I would hope not terribly.

I don?t mind people celebrating their independence by popping off illegal fireworks for the fourth. It does get mildly annoying when you hear them doing it every night starting about two weeks before the holiday and you still hear them going off weeks after it?s over. Literally just heard some as I?m typing this- middle of the day and in the rain.

A number of years ago one of neighbors went to Wyoming and bought a shit ton of stuff illegal here for the 4th. That night after about 10 minutes a fire marshal showed up, confiscated everything, left him a ticket for $1500.

I only light in the rain or else I'll have peeps complaining... YOU'LL START A FOREST FIRE, HOW SELFISH OF YOU.

Sounds like it's safe to light from 9:00PM-9:30PM only on the 4th.

Especially with your job. Launching them late is just plain rude.

But I have to be honest with you, fireworks don't sound like shotguns. That's awfully dramatic.

I was woken up at 10:45pm the other night by some aerial fireworks right over the house. 10:45 is too late for that. But I most certainly didn't hit the deck. A simple mumble "ugh, it's too late assholes" seemed like a reasonable reaction.

It does suck when doggies get scared too, but that can be avoided. People train their dogs to sit, stay, heal, come, play dead, fetch...it's not any harder to also train them not to be scared of loud noises. That really should be part of every dog's training, gun dog or not.
I had an extensive response typed up to this, but I thought about it and deleted it. I don't want to cause any more drama.. Maybe I was "over dramatic." I don't know if I have ever been accused of being that.

Regardless of what we keyboard commandos say, I think you can tell if you were being over dramatic based on how your captain reacted to you hitting the deck and yelling “gunshots”… if he just rolled his eyes at you, then you know the answer.

In either case, I get being woken up by them. That pisses me off royally… but not so much around New Years and July 4th. If it’s totally random and after 11pm, that really gets my blood pressure up too, but I’ve never mistaken them for gunshots.

I've mistaken gunshots for fireworks before.

I will make the same mistake too (most likely more than once) if I was asleep and woke up by a firework.
