Default Glock gen 1-4 sights versus gen 5. What changed?

So I started looking for basic iron, black sights for a Glock 34 Gen 5 MOS (optics later) and I'm looking at the Ameriglo GT-5504 model

    Ameriglo makes a GT-504 for generations 1-4 and a GT-5504 for generation 5.

What changed between the generations? The rear sight slide cut? Front sight mounting method?

I'm really having problems finding the GT-5504 model, but the GT-504s can be found and I'm wondering if there's a way to substitute.

Thanks def90, that's a lot of good information that leaves me with more questions than answers!

At least I have some idea what's going (different POIs from gen 1-4 to 5).

Seriously, thank you for those links!

For someone finding this thread in the future: It appears the Gen 5s have a higher POI than the 1-4s. So the Gen 5 sights (I assume) have a barely taller front sight to shift things down.

GT-5504 sights on order from Ameriglo directly (wallet says ouch) since I couldn't find them in stock in the wild anywhere...

This is interesting and just another reason why I’ll never own a Gen5 Glock.

Serious question, why would a different POI between different models of a gun be a show-stopper for you?

BTW, results after my 'smith just replaced the sights (and drifted in the rear sight by eye):
