I?ve got a Marlin CBSL in .357 and a Ruger bolt action. When Walmart was selling ammo my favorite was the 100 round packs of Remington 125 JHPs. Out of the Ruger they were going a little over 2100 FPS and would shoot into less than 1 1/2 inches at 100 yards. Is a great caliber, just picked up a new Colt Python today at Cabelas, and it was at MSRP, not the $2000 they are going for on Gunbroker. I was surprised to find it in the case and couldn?t resist.

I was very close to buying a “match champion “ Gp100 a few years ago but never did.
I have a .357 Blackhawk , and can’t remember the last time I shot it. I grew up with blackhawks and marlin levers with hot hand loads. My buddy had a 8in Colt King Cobra that was amazing to shoot.

What is your opinion of the quality of the new ones vs the original?

I’ll let you know once I get it to the range. I had a beautiful 4 inch original Python but they have become so collectible I couldn’t bring myself to shoot it much and sold it. I’m hoping this will be a good shooter that I won’t mind shooting a bunch. Fit and finish appear very good, but not as polished as the original stainless Pythons.

What are you trying to do? Send beast556 to the poor house?

Its amazing how many rounds you go through on a day at the range with a lever gun.

I really want a lever action 357 but I want to get a 4in gp100 first. You never know if I see a good deal on a lever gun it might come home first. My wife has a old colt python that her dad gave to her, it doesn't get shot often and I would never run full tilt loads through it. Any one know a local gunsmith that is competent to do a trigger/action job on a s&w wheel gun?

Longrange that python looks super nice, definitely let us know how it shoots.

The very first gun I bought was a Smith and Wesson 686. Still have it and will never part with it.

Shot IPSC with it for several years when I first started. It's such a nice gun, I'm a closet revolver shooter. Enjoy them much more than semiautos, but I shoot semiautos far more.
