Too many nerds pushed up their glasses and said "Actually, the Confederate States of America did not have a dedicated air force, obviously they predate the use of aircraft in war, although there were observation balloons they *blah blah blah blah*"

Saw the Confederate Air Force at an air show back when I was in college in the '80s. A simpler time. Back when we were unwoke. It was awesome.

Great shows back then, re-enactment of Pearl Harbor attack with fake Zeros and bombs exploding, the B-17 doing a landing approach with only one main gear down. It really was a different time.

In 1980 my friends and I in OK were into skydiving, and some of our cohorts were doing a jump at an air show in El Reno. I'd just bought my first 35mm SLR camera, and off to the airshow we went. As we got to the airshow, the CAF planes were just taking off.

We had NO idea they were going to be there doing the Tora Tora Tora show, and we got parked and inside just as it was starting. It was freaking awesome, VERY exciting! The explosives they'd placed out on the airfield set the grass on fire, so along with the various planes "attacking" the airfield and each other, there was big billowing clouds of smoke and fire trucks - it was great! Got some great photos, until I ran out of film.....

The B-29 just flew over our house in Littleton (Columbine.) They're on their way to Colorado Springs this morning. Now I'm listening for the B-24.

It's another group from the Commemorative Air Force, they've been at Centennial all week I guess.
