Some freakin' people. A friend of mine texted me yesterday asking if I had seen the ZX-14R that was posted on craigslist for $5500 since he knew I was possibly in the market for one. I jumped on CL, found the ad, and contacted the seller immediately. He said he still had it but he wasn't going to waste his time with tire kickers or flakes. I tell him to send me his address and a time and I would be there. He sends me the address, which is 50 min from me and says I can look at it at 7pm. I tell him that I am not a flake and if the bike checks out, I'll buy it. I show up at his house at 7pm on the dot. I go over the bike, ask some questions, take it for a test ride and it all checks out. I tell him I will take it for his full asking price. He thanks for me showing up and also not haggling on the price since it was already a good deal. He also said he would be removing the ad (which he did) since he knew I was serious. The bike was financed through a credit union and later that night, we make arrangements on how we can make the deal happen so he doesn't have to take time away from work. We agree that I will meet back at his house this morning at 8am, load the bike in my truck, drive to one of my banks in Aurora, get the cash and then drive to the credit union to catch them right as they open at 9am so he doesn't have to take any time off from work. My days start early M-F so I set my alarm last night for 3:45am this morning so I could get my workout in, go to my brothers house by 6am to get a ramp, then back to my house to load all my stuff up for the day and be at his house by 8am. This chicken sh*t texted me this at 6:54am, right as I was leaving to head to his house:
Never got a response after that last message.
I've had this happen a few times over the years and usually when you pull the 'you are only as good as your word' card, they honor it, but not this jackass. It's not the end of the world but still pisses me off that someone would have the balls to message someone after all of the hoops I went through to make the deal happen. This whole pandemic has people out of their gourd. At the end of the day, if this is the worst thing that happened to me this week, I am doing alright but this world is getting shittier and shittier by the day. I shouldn't be shocked because I've been outbid on a number of good deals the last year and a half but I figured since I actually showed up, we agreed on it, shook hands, I had it in the bag. Part of me wishes I should have played along with him and told him that I would still pay the $7500. Tell him we could meet at the credit union and then when he was waiting around for me, tell him that I talked to my wife and I talked and she thinks I am paying too much for it and that I would only pay $3500 now. It would have been no different if we set this all up and I show up to his credit union and tell him "ya, we agreed on $5500 but I only brought $3500." F*cking people.
