I've had a 91/30 and M44. They are both fun and inexpensive. Locally I see one or two in just about every shop for $125-150. If you really search you can get a 91/30 for $100.

The M44 has the fixed bayonet which I think looks neat but that is just opinion.

Both the M44 and M38 are shorter than the 91/30 so when you shoot surplus ammo the powder doesn't all burn in the barrel and you get an awesome muzzle flash!

All three kick like hell and the buttstock is designed to bash a german skull when the ammo runs out. If you can find one with a good bore that has not been counterbored it will run at least $150 but the accuracy will be better.

There are lots of aftermarket upgrades if you want to bubba it out. Synthetic stocks, scope mounts, sights, etc. They are a lot of fun for the price but you get what you pay for.
