Considering "demilled" is short for Demilitarize, which means "to rid of military characteristics or uses" I doubt they would so any "demilling"

The AFT does allow destruction of machine guns to be used for parts.

    https://www.atf.gov/firearms/machinegun-destruction

The ATF also has instructions for destroying a firearm.

    https://www.atf.gov/firearms/how-pro...stroy-firearms

Unless destroyed by law, a transfer is not legal with FFL transfer.

And a church doing this would be against the law I think because the purchaser is not the actual buyer.

Hopefully the police / sheriff / ATF are called.

I wouldn't bother showing up with 2x4's, or even showing up at all. This is a church event. If you read the article, the last time a boulder church did this they collected 34 guns and "made" a grand total of two garden tools.

It's free bullshit advertising, not an actual event imho. They probably have 15 giftcards that are $100 and one that's $200. Church members already have some crap they are bringing to get their gift cards, pastor belt-buckle is going to collect the $200 giftcard for himself. Everyone else is simply rewarded with proselytization for showing up. Lol.

Now, those that are going to waive cash around in the parking lot.. maybe. But you better have a FFL to collect them with because you betcha' police are interested in "those" people and not the church.

If I still had that old Marlin bolt action shotgun that the bolt would come off every time I cycled it, I would head on over. Bought it for $20 but sold it for $100 to a enthusiast.

I don’t have any other stuff to work with. Maybe a Daisy BB gun?

I would bet that some attorney working on behalf of the church has advised to make sure the firearm owners are the ones asking to have their own firearms destroyed thus bypassing the transfer of a firearm. I'm not an attorney nor did I stay at Best Western, or who ever the chain is, last night.

It never ceased to amaze me how concerned people are with the technicality of the language of a law.

District attorney doesn't give a shit. You can be arrested and charged even if there isn't a law to support it. Your job to fight it.

Likewise, doesn't matter what laws are technically broken, if the DA agrees with the subjects breaking them, it doesn't matter. At all. Not even a tiny bit.

The article talks about a range of $100 to $300. Does anyone know how they figure out the price per unit?

It says in the article: “It is someone freely bringing their weapon to this event,” Verasco said. “It will be disabled in the presence of the owner, who will then be giving us gun parts.” That would therefore not be a violation of any laws. I gave a few pistols I had for case evidence to the JeffCO Sheriffs office after disabling them in accordance with the rules from the BATF.

Sorry...but if it has a serial number it is not just gun parts. The serialized part has to be legally transferred via a background check. Otherwise you and I could buy stripped AR lowers without a background check.
