Why continue funding this 1700s mode of transport?

Maybe because it's still the most cost- and energy-efficient mode for transporting large items and massive quantities.

Wow... I guess you don't travel much outside the country aren't you... In terms of railroads, yes the US is stuck in the 1700, when everyone else enjoys safe, reliable, high speed trains. You probably drank the kool-aid bs that planes are the safest means of transportation, when in fact trains are 10 times safer. (miles traveled vs number of trips).

Default Only way to move a whole division...

The Army has their own trains. That's how they move the Abrams M1 tanks at Fort Carson. The tanks are 70 tons.

Well I promise the original builders had no idea how fast, deadly, and powerful these modern trains would become.

    Stop Assault trains.

Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to Fight, he'll just kill you.

I lived in Germany for 4 years. We rarely used the trains for leisure. Very inconvenient once you got somewhere.

For the size and low density of the US, trains, even high speed are inefficient and costly. A network of busses or shuttles to regional airports is far cheaper and can change routes without costs. It's why trains fail even when heavily subsidized with stolen money.

Even a high speed non stop train coast to coast is half the speed as a plane.
