    The downside of a serial number could be used for validation of how you voted so you can get paid for said vote...or the retaliatory you voted this way - here is your never ending IRA audit....

    If proof of ID is too hard; how about a thumb print? DNA sample? - ok; sort of silly....because they would have much more data than they should.

    Yes there would have to be restrictions on who can access the info and for what purposes. And once an election has been certified and no challenges raised (and maybe even after the person takes office) that data can be purged from the record.*

    No perfect system, but I'd rather have an honest system with an outside chance of loss of anonymity than a perfectly anonymous system that's easy to cheat.



    *My other idea is that all voting rolls are purged after every election and you have to re-register before the next election if you want to continue voting.
