    Do it yourself, it is not difficult.
    Piston, rings, pulse line,fuel line and fuel filter. Won’t cost you more than $100.
    Watch for vacuum leaks.
    The 290 is a good saw and worth a rebuild.

    I have a trio of 026’s and a 271 sitting in the garage I need to rebuild.

    026 probably the best model to have unless you have a need to run huge bars.

    Ya, looked around at a couple different cylinder/piston kit options to do it myself. Studied the parts exploded view, watched a couple videos… doesn’t look that hard. The 290, 310, 390 use the same cylinder, carb… Cylinder bored out for larger piston is the only difference. Tempting to go with a 390 cylinder/piston kit.
