Gonna do it again.
Last time I announced that there was 1 rifle to giveaway, and was going to surprise a second youngster when the time came. But since there were no "females" entered in the first thread, I had to start a second thread for the "girls only" to enter. So this time I am stating up front that there are 2 rifles. One is going to go to a boy, the other is going to a girl. (wife says one has to go to a girl, gotta keep the wife happy ya know) Besides, I agree with her. So enter the young ladies too.
Both of these rifles have been gone through by the "Colorado school of Trades" gun-smithing school, and deemed ready to rock and roll.
A friend found out what I was going to do with these and volunteered to re-finish the stocks. Different pictures of the stocks (with and without flash) are to try to show them the best I could.
So, without further ado.
The boy will receive a Remington Model-514. It has a 23" barrel, and an overall length of 40 1/4" and weighs in at 5.08 lbs. It has a new barrel, so it does not have make or model written on it.
The girl will receive a Savage Model-3. It also has a 23" barrel, and an overall length of 41 1/2" and weighs in at 4.6 lbs.
These rifles are nothing fancy, but shoot well. Bolt action, single shot, with iron sights, no scope (which, in my opinion) is the way a young one should learn to shoot. One shot at a time, concentrating on accuracy.
So, to the rules.
1. If you happen to be a previous winner of ANY firearm, please don’t enter, let’s pass it around.
2. I would like this rifle to go to a child that does not already have any firearm. Honor system.
3. What age child? Thinking about 8-12.
You know, better than I, if your child is responsible enough for a firearm or not.
4. You must be an active participant in this forum to nominate the child. My judgment.
5. Can be, but does not have to be, your child, grandchild. Can be a niece, nephew, friends kid, etc.
6. Tell us a little about the kid. (Mandatory)
Don't need a life history, but "Please enter Brian." ain't gonna make it.
7. I will end this when I feel like it.
8. I will need (signed) parents permission.
9. This is for Colorado residents ONLY.
10. If you are not comfortable receiving the rifle, without going through an FFL, don’t nominate anyone. Not using an FFL is perfectly legal, and looked at by the BATF, as a same state sale. And since there are no visible serial numbers on either of them, it is not like there would be a lot of information anyway.
Seeing as how this IS for ANY kid in Colorado, I am quoting from the BATF FAQ website (the pertinent part) just in case it needs to be shipped. (FTF (face to face) for the Denver metro area)
(quote)(B7) May a nonlicensee ship a firearm through the U.S. Postal Service?
A nonlicensee may mail a shotgun or rifle to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State.(/quote)
Parents, if you are not willing to take the kid shooting, at least a few times per year, don’t enter. I don't want this to turn out to be a dust collector. Please don’t enter “just because it is free” lets get these to kids that (along with the parents) are going to use them.
I hope these rifles gives YEARS of enjoyment to the winners.
If no one else donates accessories, like eyes, ears, ammo, etc. I will make sure that the winner gets at least some safety glasses and foam ear plugs, if they do not have any.
KIDS ARE OUR FUTURE.
