I'd like to hope so too. I would be curious to know exactly how many ATF agents are assigned to the NFA division who specifically review and approve/deny Form 1 and Form 4 forms. I feel like it's where agents who are a couple years away from retirement go and could care less about getting shit done. I can't seriously think it's that hard to review NFA paperwork.

What i was told was the hang up is processing the background checks. Not sure if that’s true or not.

I find that hard to believe. My full-time job is 911 dispatcher. I can clear someone via NCIC / CCIC in a matter of seconds. I can't imagine the ATF is using a different database than state LE agencies. Even CBI is faster than the ATF which is sad.

The ATF isnt doing the checks. It is the FBI doing Federal level checks.

But, yes. It should not take as long as it does.

My understanding is the main reason they get sent to the FBI is the fingerprint check. It takes a person to handle a fingerprint check that is sent via a card. The new e-file uses digitised fingerprints so that may mean the ATF examiners would be able to the background checks. In theory that would make it so a human wouldn't have to touch the whole process most of the time.

On the other hand I just got an e-filed Form 1 back in 19 days. That kinda kills that exquse.

.......to add to that I was reading an article where they talked with a retired FBI person who did those checks. It is on the very very veeeeery bottom list of things the FBI deams important and tends to go on long delays. The majority of the time waiting for your form 4 to come back approved is because of the background check with the FBI.

I still do not understand the how there will be a difference with Form 1 and Form 4 (3-4 months) efiling. the only difference is a manufacturer has created the serial # and registered with ATF. You would think it would be easier.

I was joking with my cousin, i have 3 paper Form 4's submitted, the last was end of Nov (which urks me if I would have known) My free SilencerCo Octane should be here in the next couple months I will eFile that one. If I get approval for that before I get my approval for my can I submitted in Sept I am going to be super annoyed.

I read somewhere, I think either the ATF or Silencer Shop, that by the end of next year the e-file Form 4 times are expected to come down to match the current e-file Form 1 times.

The ATF also said that the e-file system would be transitioned and on line Tuesday morning not Thursday morning. I hope that isn't an omen.

No kidding. I bought a Saker in late Nov, got a free Warlock along with it. We'll see which one gets approved first.
