Default CPW confirms wolf depredation incident in Jackson County

    https://cpw.state.co.us/aboutus/Page...px?NewsID=8030

?The results of this investigation indicated wolf tracks in the immediate vicinity of the carcass and wounds on the calf consistent with wolf depredation,? said CPW Area Wildlife Manager Kris Middledorf.

But wolf lovers will never admit this is a problem. A family member of mine was over this last weekend when I mentioned this story. I said it's only going to get worse and worse.

She wouldn't believe it. She was 100% steadfast in her belief that wolves don't attack livestock. She claimed only lone wolves attack livestock and that's rare. Packs of wolves ONLY attack wild game she said.

    Seriously.

No mention of how wolves can tell the difference between wild game and livestock.

No mention of the actual reports of livestock kills.

No mention of the actual videos of wolves attacking herds.

No mention of the fact humans have had to protect herds from wolves since the dawn of time.

Nope. All that is fake news. Wolves don't attack livestock.

I also mentioned that wolves have decimated elk populations in some states. Nope. Apparently they only kill elk in healthy numbers.

I got whiplash from shaking my head so much. And my face hurts from all the facepalms.

    Default Another One

    https://www.steamboatpilot.com/news/...in-last-month/

This time it was a dog. A border collie. One killed and another injured.

Note that these incidents are from wolves that wandered down from Wyoming. Colorado has not released any yet as they are still working out the details.

But they were forced to add or change rules already.

    https://www.steamboatpilot.com/news/...-hazing-rules/

"Now they can use guard animals, fladry (colored flags on fencing), scare devices like propane cannons and range riders, as well as several non-lethal projectiles.

Hazing must not result in injury or death to a wolf, and if a rancher believes hazing techniques may have injured a wolf they must report the incident to Parks and Wildlife within 48 hours, the regulations say."

Caldara had a good line in his column.

Killing of livestock that is appropriately compensated by DOW is one level. Killing family pets is a whole other ballgame, and not a good long-term strategy if the wolf pack wants to hang around.
