Livestock being domesticated by definition tend to be reliant on humans for protection. That is why for millennia men with herds and flocks lived with their animals, and trained dogs to help protect them. That is what many Mastiff breeds were bred for. Big, tough, loose skinned breeds in a pack are more than a match for a wolf pack.
