Seeing that the show had a couple of negligent discharge incidents some years ago, I can understand why they would implement a policy like this. There are enough firearms around WITH ammunition and trained/experienced shooters to handle some crazy incident like Antifa wishing to commit suicide (even without the assistance of your CCW).

Used to help a friend out every month at the Denver Tanner several years ago. Had a few NDs, but I do not recall any that were caused by customers unless the vendor neglected to ensure their firearms were clear. The ones I am aware of were all due to negligent vendors. Maybe I missed a few. Again this was only at the Denver show.

I do recall one time when security had all vendors verify their firearms were clear when they suspected someone was inserting a round in mags while checking out guns.

Sorry- I never participated in the "No CCW" program while attending a Tanner Show. After witnessing a group of "disadvantaged urban citizens" patrolling the southside Merchandise Mart parking lot, there was not a question of me being armed before, during, or after visiting the show. The biggest problem that I have with venues that restrict carry is not that I think something will happen specifically inside the venue (like the Pepsi Center or Fillmore Theater), but that I am now effectively disarmed for the entire journey to and from my vehicle (or home- if public transportation was taken). Not acceptable in my book, and I won't comply with non-enforced policy "requests" that put me in such a situation.

The PE Shows in northern CO just zip tie your pistol with a very light tie and give it back to you. It will need to be unloaded and you are not supposed to be carrying ammunition with you. A nail clipper will defeat the zip tie and they don’t search you to see if you have ammunition on you.

A true carnival of the absurd. No thanks...

I will keep a deep concealment piece fully loaded and ready to go, and it won't see the light of day during a show.

Now a weapon (or weapons) that I intend to sell, or purchase accessories for, then I have no problem with the policy (as long as holsters can still be fitted, etc).

Might that be the point of the policy? Make sure that people responsibly CCW'ing keep it concealed?

I won't deny there is some small risk in people clearing weapons at any kind of station (and disclaimer, I haven't been to one with a station, it's been more than a decade since I hit a gunshow...) but I think it's open knowledge a lot of people would CCW anyway. I doubt the promoter cares that much.

I think the risk from a clearing station at the door (which is necessary for show weapons anyway?) is still smaller than people feeling comfortable showing loaded CCW weapons to their friends. People are going to try to be "good" at a station. Men around their boys, on the other hand, can be the pinnacle of idiocy. A good comparison is how many of you feel totally comfortable at a public range, with groups of rando teenagers that pull up on each side of your lane, and no RSO. You probably want your weapon, but you're keeping a close eye on what they are doing with theirs.

Now multiply that by 500 - 1000 and I see why a promoter would want people to believe they'd get in trouble if they pull out a loaded gun from anywhere.

ETA: Minor typos and making it less confusing.

Tanner gun shows have really gone downhill. Seems like there are several threads here that, when considered in totallity, paint a very poor picture of these shows.

OPs complaint certianly raises some more flags in my book.

I have started a petition to ban any and all gun shows in Colorado. We should ban together to end these types of events in our state.
Who would like to be the first to sign my petition to end gun shows that nobody is forcing you to attend?
