    Default Lee Enfield

Some time ago I acquired a Lee Enfield No IV MK 1. Surplus rifle, very dirty, most of the finish is worn away, bore is dark but I can still see the rifling. I have a lot to learn about these but as far as I can see, it is complete and correct. It is stamped US PROPERTY on the side of the receiver. I have plans to strip it down, clean it up and see how it shoots. If it shoots fairly well I will refinish it and add it to my meager collection.
I will be acquiring reference books over the next few months so I can learn more about the LEE Enfield.

Probably shouldn't refinish it, just clean it. I'm not positive, but I think that's a lend-lease rifle made by Savage and shipped to the Brits, that's why it's marked US PROPERTY. As I recall, those are a bit more desirable by collectors.

You are correct. 3 out of 4 of mine are US Property marked. I wouldn't have bought the 4'th non-US Property marked rifle had it not been absurdly underpriced.

Edit to add - the stock looks like it could use some oil, and a good bath on the metal won't hurt anything

My 1943 MkIII is destined to become a Deslile.

Cotton Branch Customs will begin the hacking soon.

Who's that and where? Are they known for making good Deslile's?

I've had a few Enfields over the years, I currently have the exact rifle you posted photos of. Personally I'd clean up the bore and leave the rest of it alone. It's a great looking rifle as is, a pretty close match to the one I have.
