That's a great bull, congratulations! I'm interested to know his age so I hope you'll post it when the tooth sample analysis gets published next spring.

I also passed on both smaller and bigger bulls in my 2018 hunt but am happy with my choice because of the circumstances. I tracked him 3 1/2 miles in the snow, then watched him swim across an alpine lake. He has smaller fronts than yours but he sports 12 points to each side which I hadn't seen in any bull. He was aged at 3.5 years.

This evening, four years later, we're having moose tacos. Tomorrow we'll make more moose Italian sausage.

When I draw a cow license, hopefully in a year or two, chances are that I'll take it in my own yard. Much easier that way. A cow and calf have been hanging out here for a few weeks and this morning we watched them feeding along the river 30 feet from the dining room window. A big bull was here Wednesday and Thursday.

12 on each side is amazing! Very cool.

My deer tag is coming up on Oct 29'th. I put in for buck deer in 49 this year, planning on maybe finding a good area while moose scouting. I did not.

The 49 tag is good for 49, 57, 58, 581. That's a big area; over 2 million acres. Any pointers on areas to start?

I've been perusing the maps on google, google earth, and ONX of course.

All that rolling hill national forest land between Eleven Mile Res and Thirtynine Mile Mountain has got to be loaded with them.

I haven't been down in the Buena Vista area in a while but of all the times I have been in that area of the state I've never not seen deer. Drive around at dawn and dusk and glass. They will be out there.

had a strange but cool encounter while my brothers and I were breaking down my bull for packing. We've hunted this unit for many many years and have never seen a fox until now. This little chit was not very afraid of us and kept coming back for more. He'd grab and scrap and go bury it and come back and repeat. He eventually decided to chew on a leg bone until we left.

I hunted for deer hard for 7 days. I only saw one buck between lake George and Buena Vista, and all the way north of faireplay. The cold front came in and the wind started in the middle of the week and I never saw anything else moving. I didn’t get my buck.

I got my cow elk opening morning this past Saturday though. That worked out just dandy.

So of the 3 tags I had, I missed out on a buck but got a bull and a cow. I’ll take that any year.

It was odd at our elk camp this year. We had two does and fawns and a forky buck hanging out right in camp, every day. Then the experience with the fox at my elk kill. It was almost like someone released some critters from the local zoo.

Went Hunting for Mule Deer with my Pastor, his daughter, and our mutual friend.

This was my first hunt where I’d drawn a tag.

We camped in the National Forest up in GMU-7.

I used my Father-In-Law,s, Dad,s Rifle, a 1950,sWinchester Model 70 Pre-64 chambered in .243 Winchester with an old steel tube Weaver K4 4X optic. I used a Factory Federal Premium 100 gr Soft Point load which together was sighted in at 200 yards.

On 11.14.2022 we got up at 5:00AM and drove out into the area on the Forest Roads, stopping at various locations and hiking in looking for Deer and Elk. Around 10:00 AM we stopped the truck and split up looking for tracks and sign. We found some very fresh Deer tracks near where we parked and I followed them through the fresh snow God gave us that morning. I got to the edge of a ravine and spooked up 3 Does with a Buck trailing them up the opposite side of the ravine. The Buck was running hard uphill, and as he passed a brush pile he came to a complete stop, giving almost a perfect broadside shot, slightly angled up and away from me. At 4X he filled almost the entire reticle. The shot went through his left lung, and the underside of his spine. His legs buckled and he dropped straight down and kicked for 10-30 seconds. I got on the radio with my friend who was too far away by that point to hear the rifle shot, he found a logging trail and got as close as he could. We got him loaded up and took him to an empty campsite and gutted him out.
