Default Rare Colt factory 9mm carbine?

I've been looking at alot of pics of peoples Colt 9mm AR's that are very different from mine. Mine does not have the brass deflector and the CAR-15 stock is plastic-coated aluminum just like the old-school CAR's. Sorry no pic since I have to pick it up at my folks place. I bought it in 1989 used at a gun shop right outside of Ft.Bragg NC.

Does anyone know more about these carbines? Just for clarity it IS NOT the LE marked one with the plastic stock. This one has the gray colored finish on the upper and lower, with the A1 style sights. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'll post a pic as soon as I can find one.

The A1 style sites are the norm by Colt.
The R6450 (1985-1987) did not have case deflectors.

Does it look like this?(this is a 16" version)

The other models either have a brass deflector, 7-10" barrels
The 7" barrels come with a smooth cylinder hand guard. (model 634) w/ a flip down front site.
    Like this?: (10.5" version)

I say lets all remove the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Thanks Colorado Osprey, Mine looks like the 16" pic you attached. R6450 huh? Do you know of the value of these? Or where I can find more info on this particular model? Thanks!

There was one new listed on gunsamerica for $1800:
    http://www.gunsamerica.com/971219743..._E_Stamped.htm

Cheapest price i've found is $1200 for a used.
There is a guy on gunbroker selling just the stripped lower and asking $700

Man do people over pay for the prancing pony.

    History:
R6450 was introduced in 1985 as a 3rd gen Colt AR. Replaced by the 4th gen in 2002. Redesignated the AR6450
Not really rare, but rare compared to the 223/5.56 carbines.

Here is a nice break down model by model:

Thanks for the info. However, that one you have linked for sale is way different than mine. Once again mine does not have the brass deflector, is not LE marked and has the early "NAM" type CAR-15 stock that is aluminum dipped in black plastic type material. It has Colt markings on it and "9mm Carbine".

I've never seen another like it. It was purchased back in 1989 for 1200 bucks at a gun store right off post Ft.Bragg NC. Thinking about it now that was alot of money for an AR back then.

The aluminum CAR stock was actually produced by Olympic Arms. Many of the proud top tier owners would be ashamed, but back then that was what was available. There were fewer manufacturers back then making parts and Olympic supplied most of them with parts.
They were about the only ones availabe until the plastic CAR stocks came out in the late 80's earily 90's.

BTW, the brass deflector really didn't change the value... nor did the later LE stamped ones.
I say lets all remove the warning labels and let nature take its course.
