Maybe you could just re-release the photo, only this time he'll be holding a non-threatening radio. That way you can keep him in the shot and not have a suspicious vacancy.

I was a Marine at the same time. I did my Boot out there but ended up in North Carolina. So I got to have bitch Ridge and mt. mutha-fukker and the sand fleas. Ahhh good times. We took our flaks, cut the bottoms open and removed the plates and put in heavy cardboard. It would last 2-3 weeks and it would need replacement but it sure made them lighter.
We called it duce gear. The h-harness and war belt with 2 tons of crap hanging off of it. Used the same gear all the way through the 1st gulf war.
Imagine 120 degrees in dark green camo. Or better yet, 68 days living in the same pair of MOPP pants and shirt. We slept with the m-88 mask on all night. (or day) I HATE SAND! Your photos brought a lot of memories back! thanks for sharing them! Semper Fi!

    Default fond memories

looking at tose pics brought back alot of fond memories. I got to experience Mt. Motherfucker and Bitch Ridge in the rain and at night. Then I got to visit wonderous Ft. Sill Ok. (0800) then was the only west coast Marine to get stationed at Camp Lejeune from my class, Echo 2/10 2ndMARDIV.
