Honestly, I can't remember the last time I saw a sign at a gas station saying you can't use your phone.. I'm going to have to look and see if they are still around, I know they existed in the past. As far as cell phones go they are all sealed and can't spark an explosion.

Just because they post a sign doesn?t mean it is correct. Even the American Petroleum Institute doesn?t consider this a danger. Much more dangerous is sitting in you car while filling in cold weather and then getting out to stop the pump. All our high tech fabrics generate more static energy than a phone. I was at a Kum N Go and a private street sweeper was at a pump, the kind that does small parking lots. After the guy pumped the gas, he turned the motor and it started/died. He hops out, goes to the battery tray and swats at a terminal with a lead, spark spark and the motor turns. Old guy, pit stained shirt, my new hero.

Seriously I have never encountered that level of superstition fueled fear before.

    That was you?
I was just going to post about some senseless Chad who was on his phone while he was putting gas in his car.
Doesn?t he know how dangerous that is?

Seriously though Ray nailed it pretty well. Most “adults” now days have never tasted their own blood because their brain wrote a check their ass couldn’t cash.
Amazing how much you learn about respecting others when you get that taste and your eyes water really bad.
Add the fact that ever since social media became a thing EVERYBODY thinks they have to voice their opinion and be heard.

An old saying that fell by the wayside and needs to be reintroduced-
“Mind your own goddamn business, nobody gives a fuck what you think, shut the fuck up and go away before you taste your own blood.”

That and filling gas cans without setting them on the ground. Lots of videos out there of people filling cans in truck beds that catch fire.

I keep my phone in the truck when I pump fuel.

Not because I am frightened by the prospect of immolation.

Having a phone in my ear and a watch on my wrist is a great invitation to get a brick in my head.

The less attention I draw to myself, the greater the chances of making it home intact.

    This begs a practical question.

If CCWer was a accosted while pumping gas and in fear of their lives..

Should they worry about the flame from the cartridge being fired igniting the gas station? If so probably too risky to carry a gun around a gas pump.

Wait. What happens with an accidental discharge around a gas pump?

Probably safest to no have a gun around a gas pump…
