    Default Gaming advise.

So I have been thinking of being a non-productive citizen and getting a new console to replace my ancient PSII. I have been too busy doing other things to care about the newer consoles that have come out in the last few years.

which one should I get and why? I'm into shootem up type games. WWII and such. Not into sports other than hunting and to play that on TV is gay.

    in my opinion, 360 > PS3.

    more and better games.

but if you want to get a blueray you might as well get a PS3.

I have a 360 and I like it so much more than my buddy's PS3, with the only advantage being the BR Player.

For shooters I would recommend PS3. IMHO better than XBox 360. Also too many XBox 360 console's die and you have to send them in, they send you someone elses refurbished. Wii cool, but more if your into sports games. All this coming from an old time PC gamer who mostly plays tactical shooters, BF2, COD etc.

Also, since I've been out of the loop for a while, are these things about to be replaced in the near future with the next gen of even better consoles? I would hate to buy one of these things in the next few days and hear that PS4 or say XBOX 720 is coming out next month.

ETA: I don't subscribe to any gamer mag so I am clueless about these things.

Both platforms x360 and PS3 are several years old. There is a lot of speculation when next gen boxes come out but have not seen any launch dates. Probably will be at least a year out. My opinion only.

You have to pay $50 a year to play Xbox Live (online) and it is free for PS3.

Start by asking your friends which system they have, some times I hear people saying that they have such and such system, but all of their friends have the other one.

I have a Wii so I can't join in on this conversation.

What Irving, er, Stuart said about the cost of Xbox Live is true and I don't have any experience with the PS3, but my 17yo son is constantly on his 360 in the living room where I sit and surf on my laptop. He loves the first person shooter games and the ones he has are amazing.

The 360, being a Microsoft product, can also link up to your computer and play images, movies, etc from your computer through the 360 on your T.V. (may require Media Center or Windows 7 on the P.C.).

BUT, the PS3 will play BluRay discs, and I think it comes with Wi-Fi capability straight out-of-the-box. Of course, I'm not buying into the whole BluRay thing (yet) so this feature has had little sway with me.

I'm with Irving on this one - I have a Wii. If I was to get another (not likely) it would almost certainly be a PS3.

BluRay is sweet, put a good war movie on your HD set with your surround sound system going! I should admit I am biased as I weighed 360 vs PS3 and went with PS3. 360s are cool too, and I like Wii for the fun factor.
